From Tupac to Kendrick Lamar: Eminem lists the 17 greatest rappers of all time

Eminem, the iconic rapper, songwriter and record producer, has created a list of the seventeen rappers he considers to be the greatest of all time.

Marshall Bruce Mathers III, a creative who is credited as being a pivotal figure in the popularisation of hip hop in Middle America, has managed to break major racial barriers with his work since breaking into the mainstream and becoming one of the most commercially successful rappers of all time. “If people take anything from my music, it should be motivation to know that anything is possible as long as you keep working at it and don’t back down,” he once said in a quote that typifies his approach to music.

“Nobody likes to fail. I want to succeed in everything I do, which isn’t much. But the things that I’m really passionate about, if I fail at those, if I’m not successful, what do I have?” he added. “People can try to reinvent themselves. I don’t think you can really change who you are, though, because who you are is pretty much where you came from and what you’ve done up to now.”

Mathers, the ‘Rap God’ himself, one who is considered by many to be the greatest of all time, has never been shy to discuss the music that has shaped his own creative vision, often paying homage to some of the greatest. Recently, when a fan who was creating a YouTube video asked: “Who is the greatest rapper of all time?” Eminem was on hand. Somewhat surprisingly, the rapper actually replied. “For me, in no particular order… Toss up between Wayne, Pac, Royce, Jay, Redman, Treach, G. Rap, Biggie & King Crook…. [sic],” he tweeted.

He also went on to add: “Plus Redman, LL, Nas, Joyner, Kendrick, Cole, Andre, Rakim, Kane…[sic].”

This, of course, is not the first time Eminem has referenced some of his contemporaries and, in the years gone by, he has often cited some of the icons of the genre as part of his own music. Famously, as part of his 2002 song ‘Till I Collapse’, Mathers raps: “I got a list, here’s the order of my list that it’s in/ It goes, Reggie, Jay-Z, Tupac and Biggie/ Andre from Outkast, Jada, Kurupt, Nas and then me.”

Somewhat surprisingly though, Eminem failed to include the likes of Snoop Dogg, Ice Cube, 50 Cent or any members of the pioneering group Wu-Tang Clang.

Elsewhere, despite being the major figure in the breaking of racial barriers when it comes to white rappers, Eminem failed to include any in his list. It has also been noted that the rapper decided against including any female musicians as part of the selection.

THE NORTH FACE PURPLE LABEL FW20 Delivers Slouchiest Styling to Date

nanamica and Goldwin continue their fruitful partnership for Fall/Winter 2020, as the Eiichiro Homma-directed THE NORTH FACE PURPLE LABEL issues a set of slouchy Fall/Winter 2020 looks. Featuring some of the brand’s baggiest styling to date, the new collection is rife with technical textiles and adventure-friendly accents.

Like nanamica’s own Fall/Winter 2020 range, THE NORTH FACE PURPLE LABEL FW20 toes the line between casual and functional, issuing generous down parkas and field jackets, drooping corduroy trousers and big tees. Despite the hefty proportions, all of the items are designed to effortlessly intermingle and combine with existing wardrobes, thanks to neutral colors and adjustable detailing. Fleece coats and jackets, denim shirts and self-belted climbing pants make for ideal daily drivers, while GORE-TEX, Cordura and Polartec ensure the garments, hats and bags are all sturdy enough to survive winter’s worst.

THE NORTH FACE PURPLE LABEL will soon launch its Fall/Winter 2020 collection at stores like DIVERSE, Digital Mountain and Reggie Shop, which all ship internationally.

Meanwhile, the Western branch of The North Face has kept busy with frequent drops, issuing its Urban Exploration ABS Vest, Extreme Collection and the Glacier Pack.

Hermès Spring 2021 Menswear Epitomizes Louche Luxury

Hermès has already proven its resilience in the ongoing pandemic and now the luxury label is demonstrating its inimitable approach to effortlessly muted luxury. Its Spring 2021 menswear offering keeps in line with artistic director Véronique Nichanian’s previous collections, yielding a sleek range quietly informed by peerless quality.

First shown via the digital presentation seen below, Hermès then shot the seasonal collection and transposed it atop a digital background, keeping in line with the social distancing precautions that many fashion labels are currently observing. As usual Hermès centralized its clothing line on its rich textiles and carefree details.

Collarless harrington jackets, ribbed sweaters and striped layers in various hues meshed insouciantly, upholding the house’s zest for breezy, comfortably styling. This motif was driven home by drawstring slacks, rolled shirts, thoughtlessly popped collars and Hermès’ signature leather belt, tucked into itself to allow the tail to fly free. Illustrative abstract patterns grace shirts cut with just enough slouch to billow out from the elasticated waistbands they were tucked into, subverting any sense of stiffness. A host of leather-accented items, including watches, necklaces and duffel bags, were even more minimal than the subtly stylish garments.

For more context, view the menswear line on Hermès website.

KENDRICK LAMAR TO RETURN SOON

Kendrick Lamar might be dropping new music sooner than expected.

In an Instagram comment that surfaced on the internet on Monday (May 18), TDE CEO Anthony “Top Dawg” Tiffith confirmed Kendrick’s triumphant return to music after a three-year break. “Stay patient king Kendrick will return soon,” the record label’s CEO wrote.

While the Instagram comment teased that new music from K. Dot is on the way, fans will have to continue to wait patiently for an actual release date. The new info about his return doesn’t include any additional details on what Kendrick’s supporters should expect from him.

The release of a new project would end the three-year wait Kung Fu Kenny fans have been subjected to. In the spring of 2017, the 32-year-old rapper released Damn., a critically acclaimed album that made Kendrick the first rapper to win a Pulitzer Prize for music. Here’s to hoping that “soon” means in the coming weeks.

Jordan 1s sell for $560,000

Michael Jordan mania is taking over the auction world, as a pair of Nike Air Jordan 1s sold for $560,000 and became the most expensive sneakers ever sold.

The sneakers, which were worn in a game by Jordan and autographed, sold for more than three times their original estimate, after a frenzy of bidding that saw the value go up by $300,000 in the final 20 minutes. The final hammer price beat the previous record holder, a pair of 1972 Nike Waffle Racing “Flat Moon Shoes” that went for $437,500 in 2019.

Sotheby’s didn’t disclose the name of the buyer or seller, but said bidding came from four continents.
The sale coincided with the the last episode of the popular ESPN documentary about Jordan, “The Last Dance.”

Nike gave Jordan a signature line of shoes and clothes in 1984, an unprecedented move at the time. Jordan’s line of sneakers for Nike remains the most coveted by collectors and typically fetch the highest price at sneaker auctions and sales.
